BEMIDJI – A variety of activities are planned for this year’s homecoming weekend at Bemidji State University.
The lighting of the homecoming fireplace will kick off the festivities at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, at the fireplace near the Lower Hobson Memorial Union.
Becoming a homecoming tradition in 2019, BSU student organizations and faculty will light the flame that will burn throughout Sunday and extinguish after the Carl O. Thompson Memorial Concert.
Bemidji Parks and Recreation, First City of Lights and myBemidji will host a fall food festival throughout the weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at Library Park.
Beaver Soccer takes on Minnesota State Mankato beginning at 3 p.m. Friday at Chet Anderson Stadium, and Beaver Volleyball takes on the University of Mary at 6 p.m. in the Gillett Wellness Center gymnasium.
An honorary gala will recognize BSU Outstanding Alumni Award recipients, President’s Society donors and Legacy Society members. Cocktail hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a program beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Sanford Center Ballroom.
The Beaver Bash Pregame Tailgate will precede Beaver’s football game against Winona State with tailgating beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Diamond Point Park.
Live music, games, food vendors and a bar will be on offer before the game kicks off at 2 p.m. at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The Bemidji Alumni Choir will hold a reception at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the David Park House, followed by dinner and a program in the Beaux Arts Ballroom at the Hobson Memorial Union. The evening will pay tribute to Christopher Fettig as a former star student of the Bemidji choir.
A Beaver Block Party and street dance will end Saturday night from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. between Third and Fourth Streets on Beltrami Avenue. Cover band Sweet Siren will perform live music with a cover charge of $10 per person, cash only.
Beaver Soccer takes on Concordia University, St. Paul at 1 p.m. Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Members of the Bemidji Alumni Choir will be featured in celebration of the Bemidji Choir’s 85th anniversary at the Carl O. Thompson Memorial Concert at 3 p.m. at the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Chamber singers from BSU, the Blue Ice Jazz Band and the Wind Ensemble will also perform.
There is no homecoming parade this year.
