SILVER CREEK – The sights and sounds of the holiday season – along with a sense of normalcy – returned to Silver Creek Central School District in December 2021.
Having the students and staff on campus together again is a great gift. The Black Knight family worked together to facilitate some beloved traditions – concerts, celebrations – that were not fully possible in the 2020-2021 academic year. December began with a focus on kindness and generosity campus-wide.
Grade 3 students combined learning and celebration through a “Make the Grinch” smile writing activity. Throughout the month, their students recognized the random acts of kindness with hearts that they used to fill the three Grinch hearts. They topped it off with a party of green snacks.
Elementary students did their shopping in a secret Santa Claus workshop set up in the library by the Parent-Teacher Student Association.
The pop-up store allowed younger students to choose from a variety of gift options for loved ones while teaching them lessons in the spirit of giving.
Elementary staff prepared for a fierce Ugly Sweater Day competition in the days leading up to winter break, with Lisa Anderson taking home the award for her entry from a holiday tree made in from school supplies.
Members of the Class of 2022 of teacher Kristen Foley’s government class have gathered around a local military family in a bid to brighten up their holiday season. Through the annual WNY Heroes campaign, they raised funds on a sleepover day, bought gifts, wrapped and delivered gifts in Williamsville. Better yet, these 12th grade students had the joy of giving back to their community.
The annual winter concert was one of the highlights of December. Following safety protocols and taking steps to ensure proper distancing, families gathered in the auditorium on December 15 to enjoy the talented college / high school ensembles. Performers included the 7/8 group, the 6th group, the 7/8 choir, the 6th choir, the high school choir, the high school group and the selected choir.
Silver Creek ended the month enjoying themed fancy dress days (Baby It’s Cold Outside, Deck the Halls, and Silent Night) with a variety of holiday socks and winter pajama wear spotted in the hallways.
