The members of the Pudsey choir will record their first album

The Pudsey singers will be pouring into Jam on Top recording studios in Keighley to record their very first album!

Voices of Yorkshire is made up of seven choirs totaling 350 people from across West Yorkshire – including one that rehearses weekly at St James The Great Church in Pudsey.

All proceeds from album sales will be donated to It’s Worth Talking About, a volunteer-run nonprofit service for anyone who feels they need to talk about their life struggles to improve their well-being.

Voices of Yorkshire has members aged between 16 and 98.

Nick Ingram, founder of Voices of Yorkshire, said:

“Voices of Yorkshire is about bringing people together to have fun singing! We do not expect our choir members to be professional singers and, with this in mind, we do not use sheet music or don’t conduct auditions!

“Instead, we choose songs that everyone loves from the 1970s to the present day, we sing our own bespoke arrangements in three-part harmony, with our own bespoke backing tracks, and have a lot of fun. along the way !

“Singing is great for well-being and for maintaining good mental health, which is why we’ve aligned ourselves with ‘It’s Worth Talking About’ for this project. Many of our members join Voices of Yorkshire as than strangers and meet lifelong friends at our sessions, performances and social events.

“We asked our choir members to go on vacation together, walk each other’s dogs, look after each other’s children – all making positive connections, and with singing it’s about that’s what it’s all about for us.”

Mr Ingram said hiring a studio and producer to record an album had been on the choir’s “to do” list for some time.

He added, “We’ll be recording for nine hours, with each harmony part in the studio for three hours. This is a big request from our choir members, singing for three hours non-stop is hard work!

“But they always rise to the challenge and I know they will give their all! We are delighted to be working with producer Andy Thornton who is extremely experienced and who we know will help us achieve something that we are all very proud of.

“We will of course have an ‘album launch’ later in the year once the album is finalized, we love finding any excuse to get together! No doubt there will be lots of singing, dancing and good times!

The album will consist of nine songs, including Human originally by the Killers, From now on of The greatest showman and What’s new originally by the Four Non Blondes. It is expected to go on sale in September 2022.
