Vancouver Bach Choir: Mozart Requiem in D minor

Jasper Sloan Yip, Strange Calm / Blushing Autumn

Jasper Sloan Yip is releasing two EPs, each recorded at different times in the life of the Vancouver singer-songwriter. The first, Strange Calm, consisting of six songs, was made as the world began to grapple with the uncertainty of the pandemic. The other, Blushing Autumn, is a collection of four songs recorded after finding out he was going to be a father. Both are sweet, unpretentious versions that showcase the musician’s melancholy ruminations. To accompany Strange Calm, Yip also recorded Strange Commentary, a six-episode podcast of notes on the first batch of songs.

Vancouver filmmakers get the chance to show off their scary skills at this year’s Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival. The contributing short films are locals Gigi Saul Guererro, the director of Lucagore’s Mistress of the Bones, about two grave robbers who unleash an ancient Aztec force; Lisa Ovies, whose Witches Midnight stars Beverly Elliot (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants); and producer / director duo Victoria Burkhart and N’Cee Van Heerden, who contribute to Hunter’s Cabin, a monster movie. Feature films include Dark Stories, a French horror anthology starring Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3); The Columnist, a Dutch enthusiast of a columnist who continually has to deal with nasty messages and death threats on her social media pages; and Night at The Eagle Inn, an American film about fraternal twins on a pilgrimage to investigate their father’s last known place.
